Container types
General-purpose 20 ft and 40 ft shipping containers (DC — Dry Container) are the most common type: dry containers with rubber door seals.
- 20 ft containers suit dense, heavy cargo of small volume
- For light but bulky cargo, 40 ft standard or High Cube containers are the better choice
- Reefers — for cargo that requires a controlled temperature
- Open Top (a soft tarpaulin instead of a hard roof) — convenient for loading from above
- Flat Rack (an open platform) — for oversized cargo
- Tank containers — for liquids and gases
These are the most common types; 45, 48 and 53 ft containers are also in use.
