Shipping cars in containers
Shipping a car in a container is a reliable, safe and gentle way to deliver a vehicle to its owner in any region. We ship in 20 ft and 40 ft containers by rail and by sea.
Stowage and securing to GOST standards
- Cars (including off-road vehicles) with a gross weight of up to 3.5 t are stowed as follows: one car in 1C and 1CC containers (20 ft), one or two cars in 1A and 1AA containers (40 ft). Before loading, the car is washed and wiped dry and the treads and rims are cleaned. Tyre pressure is adjusted so that the contact patch with the floor is 130–150 mm. Fuel is drained from the tank and the battery is disconnected. Leaks of oil, brake fluid or coolant are not allowed. Protective sheeting (film, for example) is laid and secured on the floor under the engine and the axles; the wheels must not stand on the sheeting. Once in place, the car is left on the handbrake with first gear or the “park” position engaged.
- In 1C and 1CC containers the car is secured with two pairs of lashings made of 6 mm wire in two strands, together with longitudinal, transverse and stop blocks with a cross-section of at least 100 × 120 mm. One end of each lashing is attached to the container's bottom lashing points, the other to the load-bearing parts of the car (towing eyes, springs, axles). Stop blocks as long as the internal width of the container are placed against the end wall and the doors; longitudinal blocks go on the outer side of the wheels, tight against them; transverse blocks are placed tight against the wheels and nailed to the longitudinal ones. Nails and staples must not be driven into the container floor.
- In 1A and 1AA containers cars are secured in the same way as in 1C and 1CC containers.
- Blocks may be built up in height, and longitudinal blocks also in length, from no more than two pieces. They must be fastened together outside the container so as not to damage the floor.
- If stowage and securing are carried out by the carrier, the shipper must be present during loading and is notified of the date and time in advance.
